Footnote references
Previously, when using Word 2003, when I would hold my pointer over a footnote number, the text that was being referenced in the footnote would appear. When I would move the pointer from the number, the text would disappear. Now, however, when I hold the pointer over the footnote number, nothing appears. How did I accidentally turn this function off?

Re: Footnote references
Just as a follow up to this, since it may be a related matter, when I put my mouse over tables of contents, the phrase "press Ctrl + click" no longer shows up. Also, when my cursor is inside of a table of contents, the table of contents no longer becomes highlighted in gray as it did previously. It may all be the same issue.

I'm not sure what I mean! From memory, a quick Google, and looking at Word 2002 > Tools | Options, there is an option to toggle Tool Tips / Screen Tips and I think they may be connected....jmt356 wrote:Leif, do you mean Tools | Options in Word 2003?

Leif, under which tab is the option to toggle Tool Tips / Screen tips in Word 2002 > Tools | Options?

Re: Footnote references
Bravo! Ticking Screen Tips does in fact make the flags reappear. However, my TOC text still doesn't turn gray when I put my cursor in there. Any idea how to get that back as well?

In the same dialog box, change the "Field Shading" dropdown to "When selected"jmt356 wrote:... my TOC text still doesn't turn gray when I put my cursor in there. Any idea how to get that back as well?

Great! What did I do to untick Screentips and unselect field shading?

Re: Footnote references
Considering the other things you have recently reported as not being as they used to be - e.g. "thumbnails representing the pages", etc. - I would suspect you lost your personal settings somewhere and Word has reverted to its default settings.
