Another Question about Numbering

Post by BobH »

FrecklePaw's question about numbering reminded me of a question I have.

Legal documents - and others - often use line numbering in the left margin. I think this makes references to page, line word much simpler.

Does Word contain this feature so that it can be chosen as a format, like choosing font, etc.? If not, is there a template or style that allows one to do this? Of course one could always do it manually as in the days of typewriters, but the form is so common I wondered if Word has an easy accommodation.

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

Activate the Layout tab of the ribbon.
In the Page Setup group, you'll see a Line Numbers dropdown:

The line numbers will use the formatting of the Normal style of your document.

Hi Bob.
In Word2003 I automate line numbering on a page by choosing File, page setUp:-

If I wanted to includes chapters etc I'd probably switch to using {Fields}.
File, page setUp is not a style, I know.
You might try setting up a new document; then set Line numbering; then paste your current text into the new document to play with it.
Cheers

P.S. Wow! I am almost as fast as Hans!!! (or else he is slowing down to our old-codger's pace!!!)
