Disable Pick Up Where You Left Off In MS Word 2016
Is there a simple way to disable "Pick up where you left off" in Word 2016 that does not involve complex steps or editing the registry, as described in https://www.addictivetips.com/microsoft ... n-ms-word/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?

The simplest solution is simply to ignore it if you don't want to go where it points to.

Re: Disable Pick Up Where You Left Off In MS Word 2016
When I open a new document, I immediately press ctrl + H to search for a term or I press ctrl + end to get to the end of the document. However, with the new "Pick up where you left off" feature, I have to wait several seconds for the "Pick up where you left off" message to disappear before my shortcuts work. Another one of the inconveniences of Word 2016.

So, what is the objection to disabling the feature in the Windows Registry?
Best wishes,

Editing the Windows Registry is complicated, time-consuming and risks negative collateral consequences.

It takes less than a minute, you have to do it only once, and if you are careful there is no danger.

And, you should save a backup of your registry before making any changes.
Yes it is very scary the first time you do it.

On my 365 systems, when I open a file they are all at the beginning.
If I want to go to where I last saved, I use Ctrl-F5 and I will be taken there.

Re: Disable Pick Up Where You Left Off In MS Word 2016
The steps at https://www.addictivetips.com/microsoft ... n-ms-word/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; did not work in disabling "Pick up where you left off" in Word 2016. I followed the steps twice and restarted twice, but i still get the pop-up. Each time I tick ‘Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object’ option and then reboot, I find the checkbox is cleared whenever I go back into the Registry Editor. It seems Windows is unable to save my preference.

Try opening RegEdit with 'Run as Administrator' permissions:
- Click the Start button in Windows.
- Type regedit
- Right-click RegEdit in the search results.

I guess you'll have to live with it.
Since virtually every aspect of Microsoft Office appears to annoy you, would LibreOffice perhaps be better for you?
