Office 365 Word 2016 Default Normal.dot
Somehow the Normal.dot in Word 2016 got messed up on the machine my wife uses. How do I get it back to what it should be? I assume I delete the normal.dot in the folder C:\Users\Name\appData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. Then open Word and from there set the fonts and size I want but after that how do I make sure that it uses these in a new normal.dot? Do I just create a document and save it? Thanks

In Word 2007 and later, the default template is a macro-enabled template Normal.dotm.
After deleting the existing one, the easiest way to create a new one is to create a blank document, set up the styles etc. the way you want, then save it as a macro-enabled template named Normal.dotm.

Thank you. I think I got it but another question pops up. I have no idea how this happened but would like to avoid it happening again.HansV wrote:In Word 2007 and later, the default template is a macro-enabled template Normal.dotm.

I do not use the cloud and don't want anything stored there. I checked and my default folder is still listed as Documents on my PC but when my wife saved the last document she created it saved it in the clouds. She claims she has no idea how that happened and I would like to assure it doesn't happen again. Any ideas what happened and how this can be avoided? Also can I access this file in the clouds and delete it? If so how?

In Word, select File > Options.
Click Save in the navigation pane on the left.
Make sure that the check box "Save to Computer by default" is ticked.

Thanks Hans I do have that already. Can I access the one she saved in the clouds and delete it? I have checked the recently opened documents and it is listed there. I can clear if from the list but I want to delete it from the clouds? Can I do that and if so how?

You can select the cloud version in File Explorer and simply delete it.

Two points:
http://addbalance.com/word/normaltemplate.htm#Find
- The name of the file is normal.dotm, not normal.dot.
- The location may be the one you cited, or it may be elsewhere.

Thank you and after I posted the first post I knew I made a mistake about the .dotm but I forgot to edit it.Charles Kenyon wrote:Two points:Here is my page on how to find the location of the normal template that is being used by Word.
