Read only

Post by Dave Davison »

I have an external Seagate drive with some important files / folders on it and just now when I tried to open up one of the Word docs it said it was corrupted and would not open so I searched other similar files and found one with most of the data I required. However when I tried to edit it - for reasons unknown - a pop up message said it was "Read only" so the only alternative I could think of was to copy and paste the text into a black doc. This is not the first time a doc has reverted to "Read only" without prompting and puzzles me no end, what causes this irritating error please? Thanx

You could try the following:
- Right-click the document in Windows Explorer.
- Select Properties from the context menu.
- If the Read-only check box is ticked, clear it.
- Click OK.
Best wishes,
Hans
