Why are my paragraphs starting on new pages?
The paragraphs in my document start on new pages, but there are no paragraph or section breaks preceding them. How is it that they are starting on new pages? There is a great deal of blank space in the preceding pages, so the issue is not with lack of space.

Right-click the style used for the paragraphs (by default, Word uses the Normal style).
Select Modify... from the context menu.
Click Format > Paragraph...
Activate the 'Line and Page Breaks' tab of the Paragraph dialog.
If the 'Keep lines together' or 'Page break before' check box is ticked, that would explain the behavior.
You can also check the paragraph format of individual paragraphs for the same settings.
Select Modify... from the context menu.

Thanks Hans. "Page break before" was ticked.
