Word 2016 - Custom Page Size

Post by Carol W. »

Please refer to attached files. The final product will be the result of a mail merge of these two files and is to be printed on custom sized post cards. The size is 5.47" wide x 4.21" tall.

As a possible solution, I attempted to create a custom form in the print server properties for the printer in question (HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color MFP M276nw). I was able to save the form (called Kline Postcard) but am unable to find it when I go to print the merged document.

I am totally open to any other solution that will enable me to print the required postcards. I don't have the cards in my possession yet but, in printing to plain paper, it comes out as seen on the attached jpg file. If I use this method (custom page size in print settings set to 5.47 x 4.21), I would have to feed the cards in sideways. I hope to find a solution that will enable me to feed the cards in the other way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does it help if you save as PDF and then print from your PDF application?
Best wishes,
Hans

Please see attached. I have included a screenshot of the print dialog box in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

What paper size should we choose in Adobe to print on the 5.47 x 4.21 size cards? We understand that we may only get as close as possible to these dimensions.

Thanks.

Can you select the custom form that you created when you click on the Size button?

Carol,

Can you, within Word itself, define the postcard size? I recently did this with simple 4 x 6 index cards for an HP color printer and it worked fine.

Here's how it might work for you. In the Print Dialog, click Printer Setup (usually just a simple link among all the options).

Does this help? Kim

"Hmm. What does this button do?" Said everyone before being ejected from a car, blown up, or deleting all the data from the mainframe.

Kim,

Thanks for your post.

We had already set the page size per your suggestion. Using this page size, when we feed the paper in as portrait (i.e. short side in), it comes out properly. We would like, if possible, to feed the paper in with the long side in because the paper doesn't "wiggle". However, when we change the Word setting to portrait, it truncates the right side of the document.

I guess we will have to feed the paper in with the short side in.

Thanks again.

Update: I did find a place in Printing Preferences to create a new "Custom Paper Size". It would not allow me to create it with width = 5.47 and height = 4.21 but it would allow me to create it with width = 4.21 and height = 5.47.

I am able to choose that paper size when printing the merged document but we will still have to feed the cards in with the short side in. Too bad!

BTW, this is for our second printer. I had the same issue creating a form that I could find in print server properties with this printer too.
