In the midst of typing a list wherein I used both upper and lowercase characters, Word began shifting all letters keyed to uppercase. Tapping the Caps Lock key has no effect. Right clicking the Status Bar gives a pop-up showing Caps Lock checked at the left and Off at the right, indicating to me that Caps Lock is not active. I'm reasonably certain that it is an MS Word problem because I can type here in Firefox using both upper and lowercase ruling out the keyboard as the problem.
Any suggestions about what else to look for?

Very very rarely the Caps Lock key reverses its usual function, and as far as I can remember the solution is to hold down Ctrl and press Caps Lock, then release Ctrl. Worth a try rather than a reboot?

All my life I have tried multiplying really large numbers by zero.
That amounted to nothing.
