Hyphen character cannot be copied and pasted

The attached file has a single character on it that appears to be a hyphen. However, when copied, this character cannot be pasted into the Find/Replace dialogue box? Why not and is there a workaround to this limitation?

The character is a soft hyphen (ASCII 173). If you want to use them for Find/Replace purposes, use ^0173 in the Find/Replace dialogue.
