{SEQ} or {LISTNUM} in reverse sequence

Post by ChrisGreaves »

(this is just a thinly-disguised test to see if Macropod is listening)
So I made up a check-list (attached) of things to do in preparation for my trip.
I want the left-hand column to decrease not by "days-remaining-before-takeoff", but by a difference of one unit per row.

If I use {Seq} or {Listnum} I can get consecutive integers that range from one upwards, (I know about the switch to restart from some number other than 1)
I want a sequence that ENDS (in the last row) with "one", and automatically adjusts as I insert or delete or re-arrange rows.

{SEQ} starts at one (by default) and tells me how many items are on my list.

I want {seq} (or something similar) to start at however many tasks I have and count down until I have only one task left. :scratch:

I'd use Excel instead of Word. It should be easy to create a formula for your purpose.
Best wishes,
Hans

I agree with Hans; that's why the Office suite provides a compendium of apps, each with their unique and focused attributes. I do not doubt the ability of Word fields to do this (nor the expert ability of Paul), but Excel provides a much better platform.

You could probably get away with a formula field coded as:
{=COUNT(BELOW)+1}
in all rows except the last, in which you'd simply type '1'.
When you insert a new row, simply copy the formula into it and refresh the fields.

I had to give it a bit of thought - I'm half a world away (Sao Paulo) from home (Canberra) ATM, with none of my usual reference doco...
