When I use Save As in Word 2016 to save a copy of a document it always defaults to saving in OneDrive. There is a button to "Add a Place" but this only offers cloud locations
Is there any way to add other locations to the backstage so that I can quickly save documents where I want them?

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
Hi,
In Word > Options, go to the Save Settings and select the three highlighted options.
In essence, you only need to select the top one as this will disable the backstage area altogether...which for me is a big annoyance. I then just add the save and save as buttons to the QAT.

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
I prefer to bypass the Backstage.
In File > Options > Save:
- Tick the check box "Don't show the backstage when opening or saving files"
- Tick the check box "Save to Computer by default"
File > Save As will still display the backstage. When you select This PC, you'll see recently used folders:

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
I have the options set the same as you Hans, but my Save As screen looks very different. It just shows the Documents folder - not any recent locations.

Strange, I've never seen the layout shown in your screenshot - a Google search didn't turn up anything similar.
What are the folders displayed below the file name and file type boxes (blurred out in your screenshot)?

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
Might it be the difference between Office 365 and Office Professional Pro?

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
I don't think so - as far as I know there have been no updates to the backstage in the Office 365 version. But who knows...

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
I'm running the current branch of Office 365 Pro Plus. I see the same thing as Stuart. The folders displayed below the file name and file type are at the same level in the file hierarchy as the default folder into which the file will be saved.
Back in the February 16, 2016 Version 1601 (Build 6568.2025) release there was a feature called "Folder browse capability in File > Save As: Use full folder navigation in File > Save As in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for OneDrive folders, OneDrive for Business folders, and This PC." Not sure if this is what changed it.

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
My version is a kind of hybrid: it's not Office 365, but it is click-to-run and it gets updated regularly (most recently on the 16th of June).

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
Hans,
This is the only folder in the Documents library. It contains two sub-folders, that you see displayed, and no loose files.
I run the 32-bit version of word 2016, version 16.0.6965.2053

Re: Word 2016 Recent Folders
We have almost the same version (yours is the one from the 7th of June, mine from the 16th), I don't know why you and JoeP see something different.
Best wishes,
Hans

That is sad, because it is exactly that list of recent locations that you can see that I was looking for
