I have a form document with fields that I can edit. However, most of the document content is locked.
I understand that Word forms can be unlocked by going to the Developer tab | Controls group and clicking Properties. However, Properties in my document is grayed out. How can I ungray it?

Activate the Review tab of the ribbon. In the Protect group, click Restrict Editing. A task pane will appear on the right hand side. In this pane, click Stop Protection, if available.
Best wishes,

Thank you. As it turns out, this form is password-protected from the sender. I conclude then that there is no way to edit the content, other than that which is inserted into the form fields.

You can't edit other content in this document. But if you wish, you can create an editable copy:
1. Create a blank new document.
2. On the Insert tab of the ribbon, click Object > Text from File.
3. Browse to the protected document, select it and click Insert.
