More Word Symbols (Word 2007)
A while back I posted my Excel spreadsheet containing many symbols from different fonts, usable in many MS applications. I've stumbled onto a Word trick I didn't know about, to access some symbols from the keyboard using Math AutoCorrect. It uses the Cambria Math font.
It goes like this: Click the Office symbol > Word Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options > Math AutoCorrect. Check the Use Math AutoCorrect rules outside of math regions box. Browse the extensive list of possibilities, starting with a \ backslash. Click OK. In Word, follow capitalization as it was shown in the Math AutoCorrect list. After each entry, you must hit the space bar (you can then backspace to get rid of the space) or the Enter key.
My favorite: \doubleS\doubleu\doublen\doubled\doubleo\doubleg
Copy the example string, paste into Word 2007, hit the space bar before each backslash starting with the second one, followed by a backspace, hit the space bar at the end.
The results are pleasing to the eye, and different from other similar Word font renditions. You can't simply type a word and apply the Cambria Math font.

Thanks - I must admit I hadn't noticed this option yet.

Do I have to journey to London to get my "thank you" beer? Oh, I forgot, I like my beer COLD. Oh well.

Wow, Sundog, that is very neat, thank you! I will be sharing that with my coworkers here at The Firm.
Here's a picture of another little symbol doo-dad that I found, in the commands list, and added to my QAT -- the command is "Equation Symbols", although the table that displays is entitled "Basic Math". Judy
I love my QAT

Well, they would be if some of us were sitting at a Word2007 machine!Sundog wrote:The results are pleasing to the eye, ...
Thanks for the tip, and, , would a screen snapshot give us some idea of what we're missing out on?

I still don't get it.
To the untrained eye how is the effect different from this: (being Times New Roman, 48pt, with Shadow and Outline checked ON)?

Re: More Word Symbols (Word 2007)
There is a subtle difference. Included in the symbols available in Word 2007 are the ones used by mathematicians to denote the sets of natural numbers, whole numbers etc. If you look at the screenshot below, you'll see that the effect is not the same as shadow+outline. Some lines in the characters are doubled, others aren't.

That wasn't apparent to my (untrained) eyes in the post above

"Sundog" would be a great name for a rock band! Kind of an updated "Beach Boys".
