HI, I was recently given a new PC with Windows 7 (64bit) and Office 7.
The latest issue to bug me was when I tried to add a picture file, as an attachment, to a word document.
Didn't work; got the following error message:
The program used to create this object is htmlfile. That program is either not installed on your computer or is not responding. To edit this object, install htmlfile or ensure that any dialog boxes are closed.
Any ideas how this came about and/or how to resolve it?
TIA

Office 7? Do you mean Office 2007?
Adding an attachment to Word? I tracked down this thread illustration the error message, but they were inserting an object into the document.
Does this thread illustrate what you are doing? If not, please explain in more detail.

Hi Rudi,
The Word version is actually 2013, on an office PC.
Thank you for the link. That is the problem.
Though the recommendation for re-installing Office is not an option for me.
I think I will have to get our admin to sort this one out, unless you have something else.
Cheers

Can you run Regedit on your computer? If so, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg
As you see, the (Default) value on my PC is jpegfile.
Does it say htmlfile on yours?

Re: Trying to insert a jpg as an icon - failed
When one inserts an object it wraps it in a "package" field.
This got me thinking about errors I had in the past with INSERT>OBJECT>Package (as in the screenshot)
In the past I had scenarios where this was corrupt and it pointed to the Paint Application of Windows (if I remember correctly).
If one uninstalls Paint and re-installs (via Windows features) it corrected the issue.
maybe there is a connection here??
Just a guess.

Thank you for the info, Rudi.
I'll have to come back later: I'm on holiday after today and will probably need to have our Admin do the uninstall/reinstall.
