[Word 2013] How to prevent Word from adding unwieldy column?

Post by New Daddy »

When you add a new column (using the new "+" button or otherwise), Word adds an unwieldy, fat column -- so fat that it overflows into the right margin. How do you prevent this? (I can't recall, but I don't think I ran into this issue with Word 2003.)a

Hi,

I have never experienced this problem before.
Can I find out if your table has been customised? IOW:
(1) have you resized it so it is less than the width of the page margins or
(2) have you dragged cells widths in your table via the mouse drag option
(3) does your table have merged/split cells

It might be that your table was originally wider than it is now and this width might be stored in the table properties. If you go to the properties and review the width, try resetting it there?

Could you inform if the same issue happens if you add rows via the ribbon or right click instead of the new "+" sign?
Regards,
Rudi

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.

When I use the + button, Word creates a column the same width as the currently last column. So if that last column is narrow, the new column will be narrow, and if the last column is very wide, the new column will be very wide too.
Best wishes,
Hans
