I am using Office 2010 and the current version of Windows. I just noticed that embedded web links in Word or Excel do not open the browser. The default browser is Firefox (up to date). I'm sure it is just a setting, but is it an Office setting or a Windows setting?
TIA

Re: Web Links Not Working
In Word, the default setting is that you must use Ctrl+Click to follow a hyperlink. In Excel just clicking should be sufficient.
Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?

Re: Web Links Not Working
Hans, No error message. I get the select "hand" when I hover over the link, the page kind of blinks and then nothing. I tried this in a document with existing links and also created a new document with a link. Nothing happens.

That is very strange. I'm afraid I have no idea what causes this; I hope that someone else will have a helpful suggestion.
Best wishes,

Have you double checked to make sure that FF is set for all defaults it can be? Settings | Apps | Default Apps. At the bottom there is a link "Set defaults by app". Click it and make sure FF is the default for everything.

I checked and there are 4 instances of FF in the list by app. I checked all 4 and FF was selected for everything.

Are you "Double Clicking" with the Control key as asked above?

You could also check (and reset) file associations and see if that makes a difference?
Try to change the file association of HTTP and HTTPS. Follow these steps:
Close all the Office applications.
Click on Start> Default Programs.
Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
Ensure HTTP and HTTPS formats are associated with Internet Explorer (or a preferred browser). If not, select HTTP and HTTPS and click on Change programs on top right corner.
Select Internet Explorer (or a preferred browser) as the program to open these formats and click OK.
Now check with hyperlink and see if it opens from Word.
