Command buttons on worksheet went dead

Yesterday and today is seems that a few users of our excel workbook are experiencing problems with command buttons on the worksheets that seemed to occur after an update (believe to be from Microsoft, possible a service pack 2). Navigation using custom toolbar or userforms work fine.

Before update everything worked good, then the buttons stopped working and with cursor over button no arrow only plus sign (+)
I instructed the users to restore their computer to a previous day and everything started working again.
To the best of my knowledge it seems to only affect Office 2010
I am wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and any better solution
