Keep getting "Update for Office 2013" notice

Post by New Daddy »

I've removed Office 2013 and switched to Office 365. But I keep getting "update for Microsoft Office 2013" along with other Windows updates. How do I turn it off? As Office 365 updates itself through the internet on its own, I don't think I need updates for Office 2013 any more.

Does the update not give you any clues as to which component of Office 2013 it is for? Armed with that info you might be able to work out why the update is being offered.

As an aside, I only have Office 97 on my home PC but I get offered and (I accept) certain updates that appear to be for Office 2010 but are relevant because I have the Office Compatibility Pack installed so I can get at the 'new' file formats (e.g. .docx)

It's update KB2880991. According its web page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880991" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), "This article describes update 2880991 for Microsoft Office 2013 and Office Home and Student 2013 RT that was released on June 10, 2014. This update provides the latest fixes for Office 2013. It also includes stability and performance improvements. Please note that this update does not apply to Office 365 editions such as Office 365 Home."

So, it specifically mentions that Office 365 doesn't need it. I suspect that there is a remnant of Office 2013 somewhere in my system that makes Windows believe that I still have Office 2013... Well, at least this is a minor encumbrance for a Windows glitch.

If you are feeling brave let the update install, when it then fails because they is nothing to patch that might shut it up.

Otherwise, you could just hide the update so it doesn't bother you any more.
