Outlook icon keeps going missing

I upgraded one of my PCs from Office 2007 to Office 2010 recently. Everything works fine except that the icon for Outlook keeps disappearing. This leaves shortcuts on the desktop, in the start menu, and on the taskbar with the generic windows icon. The shortcuts still work, they just no longer have the correct image.

If I do a repair install of Office then the icons come back, but next time I do any software installation, even something as irrelevant as Firefox 18.0.1 to 18.0.2, the Outlook icon goes again.

Any suggestions?

Does this help?

- Activate the Programs and Features control panel.
- Select your version of Microsoft Office 2010.
- Click Change.
- Select Add or Remove Features, then click Continue.
- Click the dropdown arrow on the right hand side of Microsoft Outlook.
- Select Run all from my Computer.
- Click Continue.
- Click Close when the change is complete.

Or does the icon disappear again after the next software installation?

It was stable for a while, then this morning I realized the cause of the problem. I started Outlook 2013 and the icon for Outlook 2010 disappeared again!

I guess this is just a side effect of having two versions of Microsoft Office installed on the same PC
