Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables

Post by ChrisJakarta »

Revo tells me I have the following installed:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable v 8.0.59193 5.25MB Installed 15.06.2010
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable-KB2467175 v8.0.51011 5.27MB Installed 05.05.2011
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable-KB973924 v9.0.30729.4148 0.15MB Installed 31.07.2009
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable-KB2467174 v9.0.30729.5570 10.20MB Installed 05.05.2011
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable v9.0.21022 6.04MB Installed 19.12.2009
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable v9.0.30729 16.29MB Installed 19.05.2011
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable v9.0.30729.4148 10.19MB Installed 31.07.2010

I cannot remember which programs required these Visual C++ packages. I do remember that MS Update sometimes tells me I need to upgrade them. But do I need all these versions? Can I uninstall the versions that appear to be older? Although how I determine which is older is not clear - v 8.0.51011 of Visual C++ 2005 seems to have been installed a long time AFTER v 8.0.59193! Is this like the much-reviled .NET where it seems one needs to keep everything?

Guidance much appreciated...

Chris

I think it's safest to leave them alone - as with .NET, different applications need different versions, and it's not so easy to find out which versions (if any) aren't required any more.
Best wishes,
Hans

I just had a bunch of these installed when I upgraded to OmniPage 18, YES, some are of the 2005 and 2008 grouping.
