Data Execution Prevention

Post by Graeme »

Hello

Any Minecraft players here? My son is an avid fan and all has been well. However, today on loading the game to play in Internet Explorer 8 we got a Data Execution Prevention error then XP closed down IE. The only information I can find on the issue talks of adding the programme causing the error to a list of exceptions in the My Computer Properties. But I didn't want to add IE when the error is only being caused by a single website.

The problem could be their end but there is no mention of it on their forums and I can't ask because there seems to be a delay in activating my login. So I came to the experts instead!

Is there a tweak I can implement in IE to fix the problem?

Regards

Graeme

Does the problem persist after rebooting the PC?
Best wishes,

Will this game only work with Internet Explorer?
It might be worth installing Firefox, or Chrome, or another alternate browser of your choice to see if this gives a satisfactory workaround.

StuartR - Tried it on Firefox, didn't get a Data Execution Prevention error but the game froze as soon as it loaded.

Wasbit - I tried the Minecraft Forum but only got one brief answer that didn't really help much.

Oh well, I'll try to convince my son to go back to Roblox instead!

I have found the reason for the Internet Explorer error. It's because I have a new mobile phone! The phone is a Sony Erricson X8 which runs Android apps. Just out of interest I downloaded the Android Developers Software Developement Kit. Following the installation guide carefully, prior to installing the SDK I downloaded and installed the Java JDK which over wrote my existing version of Java. It would seem that the Minecraft game is not compatible with this version of Java. I deleted the new version of Java and re-installed the normal version of Java. Minecraft is once again functioning correctly and my little boy is well happy!

Thanks for posting the solution. As is so often the case it was a change that led to the failure.

Alls well that ends well.

Unless I want to play with the Android app developer before my son has had enough of Minecraft!
