Hi
Have a pc with XP but no MS Word (Word apparently has the microphone software).
Want to use a microphone and speakers just as a p.a. system. No recording necessary.
How do I set up ?
Thanks
Charlie

Re: Use microphone on XP with no MSWord installed
Support for sound is built into Windows XP, and the sound card in your PC (integrated into the motherboard or separate) may offer additional support.
The "Sound Recorder" is an accessory, available at Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | Entertainment - see Microsoft Windows XP - Using Sound Recorder. There are many free alternatives from third parties that have more features, for example the popular Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder.
"Windows Media Player" is another accessory; it can play back all kinds of sound (and video) files. See Microsoft - Using Windows Media Player. The version of Windows Media Player that comes with Windows XP is quite old, newer versions are available for free download from Microsoft, and there are also many free alternatives from third parties.
