Error 10060

Post by E_OGRADY »

This will probably sound confusing, but here goes
I have software for indexing my CD's when I try to download the disk information from the web I get the following error
CATraxx Manual Query.jpg
I have searched the web and found the following from Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811087
Part of this solution gives
1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.Navigate to the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3Proxy\Parameters
3.In the right pane of Registry Editor, right-click RequestTimeoutSecs, and then click Modify.
4.Click Decimal, and then type the n

I do not have W3Proxy as a file or entry in the registry

Should I have it?

That suggestion only applies if you use a proxy server. Do you use one to connect to the internet?
Best wishes,
Hans

I connect via ADSL2+ to one of the major providers in Australia Optusnet.

What else do you think could be causing the problem?

It could simply be that the website that the indexer tries to connect to, is too busy.
You could try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191143" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - either click the Microsoft Fix it or add the registry entry described further down in the article.
Best wishes,
Hans

Yes, I'd try adding the registry entry manually. After doing so, restart Windows.

If it doesn't help, you can remove the registry entry again.

Hans

Again another problem
When i open the Regedt32.exe
and follow the prompts there is no "Add value" on my Edit Menu, see image
Catraxx Error Microsoft fix Window 2a.jpg
The following extracted from the Microsoft web site

1.Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) and go to the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
2.On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following information:
Value Name: TcpMaxDataRetransmissions
Value Type: REG_DWORD - Number
Valid Range: 0 - 0xFFFFFFFF
Default Value: 5 Decimal
New Value: 10 Decimal

3.Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.

4.Reboot after registry change has been made.

What am I trying to add? A string, binary

Select Edit > New > DWORD Value.
A new entry will be created in the right hand pane, and its name will be highlighted.
Change the name to TcpMaxDataRetransmissions (if you copied this name to the clipboard before creating the DWORD Value, you can simply press Ctrl+V.
Press Enter to confirm the new name.
With the entry still selected, press Enter. Or double-click it with the mouse.
Select the radio button labelled "Decimal".
Change the number in the value box to 10.
Press Enter or click OK.
Close RegEdit.
Reboot your computer.
Best wishes,
Hans

I did exactly as you suggested, the problem still exists,
I did not enter values for the other, i.e Valid range default value
Catraxx Error Microsoft fix Window 3.jpg
Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

You can delete the entry, since it didn't work. (It was OK that you didn't change other values)

Perhaps you need to set CATraxx to use a specific port, but that is a technical question for the developer. Unfortunately, their support forum has been closed, but you can contact them by sending an e-mail to support@fnprg.com.
Best wishes,
Hans

That's a pity!

I can think of one more thing to try, but you'll have to be careful. You could turn off your firewall temporarily to see if the problem goes away. Please turn it on again immediately after testing.

If you're using the built-in Windows XP Firewall:

Disable the firewall:
1.Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
2.On the General tab, click Off (not recommended).
3.Click OK.

Re-enable the firewall:
1.Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
2.On the General tab, click On (recommended).
3.Click OK.

If you're using a third-party firewall, it'll have its own interface.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks again,
I tried all that, in all I mean I switched off Firewall, Malwarebytes, and Microsoft Security Essentials. Initally one at a time then all together but it did not solve the issue.
I use the Netgear Router WNDR4500 and this system is connected via Wireless, could the router be blocking the connection, the odd thing is I get the data so the connection must be being made. It is the pictures that are causing the error. I can however download pictures in every other way, email, ie Google images, even selecting a picture and right click "save as".
I am totally confused. Do you think the Router could be the problem.
Just had another thought, could it be my ISP?

I hope you have enabled Firewall, Malwarebytes, and Microsoft Security Essentials again!
I don't think it's your router or your ISP. The most probably explanation is that CATraxx's server is reacting slowly, and you cannot do anything about that.
Best wishes,
Hans

I have just received the following message from CATraxx

Yes, looks like there is a problem with the Discogs server. For now, I recommend you use Amazon.

with the following URL,

http://www.discogs.com/help/forums/topic/357488

I guess the message is, it is not always your system that is at fault.

Again Hans I have appreciated your assistance, I might learn one day, at age 75 I wonder Why?

It's good to hear that your computer isn't the cause of the problem.
