Cannot install Tablet PC

Post by agibsonsw »

Hello. Vista Home Premium SP2
I've tried Control Panel/ Programs and Features/ Turn Windows Features on or off to install the Tablet PC features, but the progress bar
then appears but doesn't "progress". I did have this feature working some time ago.
Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks in advance, Andy.

Hello.
It's an Advent computer with Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 @2.16GHz if that helps. But where could I find the model name/number?
It's not written on the unit anywhere. Edited: I found the System Model F71IX1 - is that it?
I went for a walk (to get my winning lottery numbers!) and it did progress in the interim. But then 'An error has occurred. Not all of the features
were successfully changed' and the Tablet PC folder is still empty. Ta, Andy.

Click Start | All Programs | Accessories.
Right-click Command Prompt.
Select Run as Administrator from the popup menu.
Type

sfc /scannow

Press Enter.
You may be asked to insert your Windows CD, but hopefully that won't be necessary.
Best wishes,
Hans

Hello. (I think I have an Advent 6552 computer?!)
I ran this scan. I didn't notice an error message (I may have missed it) but I created a file called sfcdetails.txt. Here is the first line:

2010-12-01 16:08:43, Info CSI 000000af [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:20{10}]"IMJPST.DIC" of Microsoft-Windows-Desktop_Technologies-Text_Input_Services-IME-Japanese-StandardDictionary, Version = 6.0.6000.16386, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing

There are a lot of similar lines (about IME), weird fonts and a couple of things about the SideBar.

I attached the file for reference. Thanks for your assistance. Andy.

Yikes! That doesn't look good. The parts you need are apparently absent or damaged beyond repair. I'd either live without the tablet tools, or reinstall Windows.
Best wishes,
Hans

Hi. Apart from this minor niggle my computer works perfectly. I can live without the Tablet PC features -it's not a tablet anyway and I just wanted
the Snipping Tool.
I hope it's not that bad. Most of these messages are about foreign languages and obscure fonts that I never use. I continue to use the Windows
Sidebar without problem.
Thanks, Andy.

Added: In fact, is there a tool that could help me remove all foreign language files from my computer?
