User Profile Service Failed

Post by sobershea »

I am trying to help a neighbor whose computer displays this message when she boots: "User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."

I rebooted in safe mode and didn't see any issues in Services. I removed the battery for five minutes because this happened after we had a power outage.

I tried using the "Repair the Computer" from the Safe Mode Menu as well as the boot to the last known good configuration. Nothing has worked so far.

This is a computer used by an older person who only uses it for the Internet.

I searched on the Internet and saw some things about fixing the profile in the Registry but I thought I would check with you guys first. This is a Windows Vista Toshiba Satellite which is about 4 years old.

Any ideas?
TIA
Sherry

Hi Sherry,
If you Google "user profile service failed the logon vista fix", you will find many suggestions and solutions. Hope this helps.

While many of the solutions involve manually editing the Registry, there is at least one Microsoft "Fix It" automatic solution.

John, did exactly as you said, followed the Msoft instructions and got her up and running!!! She is quite pleased to be able to get on the Internet and play Solitaire again.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
