Hello.
Is it possible to reinstate a shortcut to show the desktop on the left of the taskbar? I keep going to the left and groaning that I then need to go to the far right.

Not what you asked, but Windows key+D amd Windows key+M will show the desktop (minimize all open windows).
See How to really pin the Show Desktop to Taskbar in Windows 7 for a way to add a "Show Desktop" button to the taskbar. You can drag it to the position where you want it (if you unlock the taskbar).
