Event Viewer

Post by Roderunner »

Hi Folks, I have just been reading a pdf I made on how to use Windows Event Viewer.
I went to 'Diagnostics - Performance - Operational. Why is my most recent entry 01/07/2016 as highlighted in my image?
I am unable to post the pdf I made due to Copy Right.

That is strange. I would expect the most recent event to be no more than one or two days ago. Do you use a utility that clears the event log?
Best wishes,
Hans

But if there is a gap between 1/7 and today, wouldn't it be the other way around, all old entries gone? (If using a utility or settings in Event viewer for that specific log file.)

(The default setting for Event viewer's logs is FIFO, if needed (depending on size limit) it removes the oldest entry when adding a new one. The settings can be changed to archive a log file when it has reached a certain size limit.)

Is logging enabled, i.e. has it for some reason been disabled, and you are left with old entries?

You will have to restart the computer.

Relevant services running (set to auto or manual, not disabled)?
Diagnostic Policy Service

P.S. Yes, it seems to be a laptop according to the screenshot.
