Web Page Printing.

Post by Roderunner »

Occasionally I print a web page for various reasons. To do this, I have tried FF portable, IE & Chrome all on the same page using CutePDF with its attachment. I find FF gives the best results.
my image shows default page settings, Chrome doesn't have any.

I rarely print a web page; I just now tested by printing your post to PDF from IE 11 and FF 54.0.1, using the default settings, with Foxit PDF as printer. I was surprised at the difference:

IE ran to a bit more than 2 pages, while FF produced just over 1 page.
IE used a different font than FF; neither was the font used by Eileen's Lounge.
IE included the graphics and font colors; FF included the screenshots, but omitted all other graphics (such as the Lounge logo and your user avatar) and almost all color. As a consequence, FF produced a smaller PDF file.
FF inserted the URLs of some, but not all, links in parentheses after the display text.

All in all, IE had the advantage of printing a more accurate representation of what is displayed on the screen, while FF had the advantage of a more compact layout and file...
Best wishes,
Hans

When I tried printing with FF, it depended on the 'NoScript' setting for that page giving 2 different results.

I have allowed eileenslounge.com in NoScript; I haven't tested without that.

I also tested in Chrome. The layout looks more or less like that in IE, but takes up less space.
Best wishes,
Hans

My last attempt at printing a page was to get a list of the telephone codes in the UK. I wanted to be able to search users that attempt to contact me by putting the first five numbers in my pdf reader's search box. All my attempts gave various results i.e. one + half a page the remainder were blank.
I finally got what I wanted. Printed by FF.

By the way, Chrome does offer page settings, on the left hand side...
