On one Windows 7 PC in a workgroup, listing the contents of the network shows two instances of PC02, and none of PC01. Both PC02 and PC01 can be PINGed from the faulty computer. There is no problem on other PCs in the workgroup.
There is a further problem where an old XP PC has been renamed, but appears as both the old name and the new name, both names being PINGable.
Any ideas as to what is wrong, and what can be done to correct it?
All PCs have been powered off and on, of course...

Try typing the following commands to a command prompt (with admin privileges) to clear the DNS and NETBIOS name caches.
Code: Select all
ipconfig /flushdns
nbtstat -R

Thanks, Stuart - this worked for the list of PCs immediately!
