I have been getting prompts about the number of my unused drivers (25) - one from MacAfee and the other from Windows driver upgrade service for Windows 7 Home premium. In each case it seems that I would have to pay an annual fee. Presumably my Housekeeping processes do not perform this task, but, is there a way of deleting these unnecessary drivers without incurring a cost?
I use a Dell Inspiron 1545 model.
Thankyou

Re: obsolete drivers
Welcome to Eileen's Lounge!
In general, there is no pressing need to remove unused drivers. Disk space is not a problem with today's hard disks, and unused drivers don't consume resources.
If you still want to remove unused drivers: Comodo Programs Manager is free (at least, so it claims, I haven't tried it myself).
Or AutoRuns is a free utility from Microsoft that lets you delete individual drivers if you so wish. It doesn't tell you which ones are unused, though.

Re: obsolete drivers
I would not waste my time or money on using the likes of Windows driver upgrade service.
This "Windows 7 driver upgrade service " is not a service from Microsoft but from a third party.
Like Hans said, there is no need in removing any "unused" driver.

You should be able to at least get rid of the Microsoft "nags" by going to Control Panel> Windows Updates> Change Settings and unchecking the last item on the list about software updates.
I don't use McAfee myself but would imagine there is a similar option for their program.

Re: obsolete drivers
BTW, are you sure they mention unused drivers, not outdated drivers?
