How to replace text on a registry search

Post by StuartR »

I need to move a network drive from F: to G:

When I tried doing this I get a number of errors from odd places, for example the Adobe software updater complained about not being able to open something in the old location.

I currently have the drive mapped to both locations and it's all working OK, but this is not a long term solution.

Does anyone know a tool I can use to do a global replace of F:\ to G:\ in the registry?

Would the built in Find/Replace not be able to do this?
Or how about this app: http://www.torchsoft.com/en/rw_information.html.

Not that I know anything of value in this area.
BTW: If it comes to registry changes...make sure you have backups.

Nir Sofer's RegScanner will find all the instances of F:\ in the registry, but it doesn't do any replaces - perhaps useful to check you've found every instance before/after replacement?

Wouldn't a partition manager like:
http://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Doing a rename\drive letter change to accomplish it?
It's free and works reliably, doing a lot of different tasks.

Thanks for the replies so far, but I'm still hoping for a simple edit/replace tool that is either :free: or inexpensive and recommended by a lounger who has used it

There isn't a built in find/replace

If I have to pay $30 for a tool, I'd like it to be one recommended by a Lounger who has used it.

I can use the built in regedit to check afterwards, it just takes ages to manually replace them all

I don't think a partition manager is going to help with mapped network drives.

This app had a 30 day free trial, so I downloaded it and it has done exactly what I need. It even has an undo that can be executed even if I have rebooted in between!

Gosh, I didn't realise there was no replace command in Regedit. :sorry:
I'm glad the trial app was able to resolve your query. To be quite honest, I didn't even note the price tag.

You could always export it and then open it using, say NotePad++ make the changes and the reimport it.

Should work, but haven't tried it myself.

Sounds very scary Ben. Fortunately the problem is solved now.
