Our HP P1606dn printer went into the Manual mode only for printing on both sides.
Called HP, and they (the tech) said that most of my services have been stopped.
They can fix it for me for $299 US, and that is a bit much.
They stated that the cause was my internet temp files had shut things down.
I have cleaned the internet temp files and now I need to know how to start all of the needed services that have been stopped.
How do I do this?
How can I make a listing of services so I can list them here?
Edit
They also told me that F-Protect AV program was unknown to them and felt it was useless.

I am no systems engineer, but can provide some help regarding one of your questions:
Could I say that a reboot might start the necessary services again automatically? If not you can start (or stop) a windows service, by doing the following:
1. Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2. Click Manage.
3. Double-click Services and Applications.
4. Start of changeDouble-click Services.End of change
5. Right-click on the service you wish to start or stop, then click the appropriate choice.
Tip: Start of changeYou can set up a service to start each time the computer starts by modifying the service properties and choosing automatic startup.End of change
To export a list of these services and their properties:
- In the Computer Management Console, with Services selected in the left panel, go to the Action menu and choose, Export List...

Re: Stopped services
I just did a comparison of my 32 bit machine and 64 bit machine.
I do NOT see any that are difference as far as being started Manual or Automatic.
I need to compare the stopped on from within MSCONFIG and se what is different there.

Re: Stopped services
I'm not impressed with the quality of the HP technician you got!
Not having heard of F-Prot is pure ignorance.
The statement "the cause was my internet temp files had shut things down" of itself must be incorrect. Temp files don't shut down services!

Re: Stopped services
Things you could try before outright panic include
Restart the computer
Follow the instructions in the HP FAQ for this printer http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... ct=4110410
Deinstall and reinstall the printer software

Re: Stopped services
I have gotten it fixed. It had NOTHING to do with the stopped services. The Tech at HP support just wanted to make a sale.
Thanks to Stuart, I have bookmarked his link, and I hope I do not need to use it again.

Re: Stopped services
I am not sure but the last thing I changed within Word Options was to a check mark both the front and back of sheet for duplex Printing.
This is in the Advance tab, then the Print section.
