Pin an icon to task bar

Pin an icon to task bar
I have a Google icon on my desk top and would like to pin it to the task bar but have tried many times, with many different methods and failed. Does anyone know how this can be done or did MS leave that quick launch out of W7?

Open Google in a tab.
Drag the web page's icon from the address bar to an empty part of the taskbar and drop it there.
Dragging the tab may work too.
