K-Lite Codecs

Post by Bigaldoc »

Prompted by a thread in XP on this product AND the fact that I'm still a Windows 7 "novice" on my HP laptop.

My old bookmark for K-Lite ( K-Lite Codec Pack ) indicates that there IS a 64-bit version available.

Does anyone have K-Lite installed in Windows 7 and if so, which of their several versions did you use. If not 64-bit, I'm tempted to use their "Mega" version since someone mentioned some time ago that the Mega adds capability in WMP for Real Player files and I've never bothered with that.

I have installed both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of K-Lite Codec Pack Basic, but to be honest, I have no idea whether I ever use the 64-bit version...
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks, Hans. As long as installing it didn't "break" anything (*) , maybe I'll give it a try one day.

(*) Ref your comments about Outlook 2010 64-bit in another thread.

In this case, the 32-bit and 64-bit versions can coexist; I don't think installing the 64-bit version will break anything.
Best wishes,
Hans

The 64-bit version will not hurt anything. The 32-bit WMP is the default media player in Windows 7. I've seen a tweak to make the 64-bit WMP the default media player but can't find it at the moment. IIRC, I tried it shortly after Win7 was released, had some problems, and reverted to the 32-bit as the default. I don't remember the details. Occasionally, I'll use the 64-bit WMP on my own just for grins.

Thanks, Bob. I haven't gotten a round toit yet, but probably will soon.
