I am having some Window 7 probs, so thought I would do a repair.
Boot from DVD and select repair. I have done this a few times without any hassles. But this time at 'press any key to boot from DVD' - the keyboard isn't recognized. I tried 3 other USB ports for the keyboard - same result. I tried another DVD drive - same result. This is weird because it has always worked before. The only other keyboard I possess is a PS2 one and there is no PS2 port on this computer.
I know the lounge is populated with some very smart folk, but I'm worried that this just may be even beyond you guys.

Have you done a complete power cycle? If not then turn the PC off, leave it for 10 seconds and then power it on again.

What kind of USB ports do you have? The DVD probably doesn't load USB3 drivers, so if your computer has only USB3 ports, you may be out of luck.
Have you looked at the BIOS settings?
Oops - that requires a keyboard...![Groan :groan:](./images/smilies/groan.gif)

Yep, powered off waited for 5 mins while on the phone, then back on - no diff.
I can't even get into the bios (setup) because the keyboard isn't recognized.
I think I will have to go down to the shop and buy a cheap keyboard.
I have USB 3 ports, but the keyboard is plugged into a USB 2. I have tried 4 of them. The initial one has always worked.

Ha ha! Hans, your comment got me thinking. The only new component on my computer is a USB 3 hub. I disconnected that and now the problem is solved.
Thanks guys.

I was just about to post a question regarding hubs, but now, I wont.
Good to hear Peter; (had the same problem on one of my computers, and the same solution.)

Re: Can't boot from DVD keyboard not recognised
I faced the same problem recently, with my Microsoft keyboard not being recognised while attempting to do a repair. I borrowed a Mac keyboard and it was recognised without problems, using the same USB port on the computer. Beyond my capacity to explain it, but it resolved the problem for me.
