Why, when I delete MSWord’s backup copies("Backup of*.*"), they are forced into permanent deletion!
It makes sense to me to “preserve” these stale backup copies in the recycle bin just-in-case and start a fresh set of backups.
Is there a way (apart from cut-and-paste to a fresh folder) to cause the DELete key to send these files through the Recycle Bin?

Strange - when I delete such a file, it ends up in the Recycle Bin (unless I press Shift+Delete, of course). As far as I know, Windows should treat these files just like any other file...
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks, Hans for the confirmation.HansV wrote:Strange - when I delete such a file, it ends up in the Recycle Bin (unless I press Shift+Delete, of course). As far as I know, Windows should treat these files just like any other file...
My machine is starting to act funny.
I think it's time for my Christmas-season shutdown-and-reinstall to see what problems go away.
I was puzzled by this because I've not often bothered to clean up debris or defrag or do any of that stuff.

Is it just these backup files or is it any file?
If its any file, it might be that your bin is full.

Hi Rudi; it was just the backup files, and since most of my work is in MSWord they were MSWord backup files.Rudi wrote:Is it just these backup files or is it any file?
My recycle bin is never full; it's usually close to empty.
I shall take a closer look tonight, and I plan to rebuild my system over the holidays ...

These files are not, perchance, on a networked drive, are they?

Sort-of.
They are on my local drive T, a TrueCrypt drive based on the second partition on my only physical drive.
At least, I think so.
(I forgot to experiment last night).
They might be in my user area on Drive C:.
I will make a better study and report back here.
P.S. I know that with my use of SUBST to map folders of T: to other letters all bets could well be off.

Re: Deleted files don't reccycle?
John has a point.
The only files that go to the recycle bin are files deleted from the local drive (C:\)
All other locations skip the bin (AFAIK).

I think you mean "local drives" - certainly all deleted files from my local E:\ and F:\ drives are recyclable.Rudi wrote:John has a point.

And files from my local TrueCrypt drive also go to the recycle bin

It seems Chris's files are NOT local (so they are either foreign or alien).

Isn't Chris "either foreign or alien" being from that Northern area?
