Just learned about this right now and thought it worth posting as some may not be aware of the intent of Microsoft. Regards Dave.

I needed to send all of you a very important update. Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows XP without Service Pack 3 installed and for Windows Vista without any service packs. Tomorrow, April 13th, Microsoft is ending support
for Windows Vista, while Windows XP support is ending on July 13, 2010.
What this means is that you'll need to make sure your system is up-to-date with the latest service pack. Visit the link below to learn more.

Re: for users of XP & Vista
I have moved this thread to the Windows General forum from the Older Windows Versions forum where you posted it - the latter is for Windows 95, 98 etc.
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: for users of XP & Vista
Well I see no reason for not having these OS,s updated to the listed SP's.
If one does not have SP 3 for XP and SP 2 for Vista installed, then they have been missing some protection for some time, as they both have been out for a long time.

I am so far behind, I think I am First

Re: for users of XP & Vista
I haven't installed Service Pack 3 because it caused a lot of problems on PCs which contained AMD Athlon chips (as mine does).
What's the situation now re this problem? Is SP3 now regarded as 'safe' for AMD machines; did it get amended after initial release to prevent AMD problems? What?
Thanks
Silverback

Re: for users of XP & Vista
As far as I know, it has been fixed. Anyway, if Microsoft Update offers SP3, it's safe for your computer.
Best wishes,
