Microsoft fixes bad patch detection.

Post by Roderunner »

Hi Folks,
The company has reissued the following patches to address the problem:

MS13-067 (Critical) — Vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint Server Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2834052)
MS13-072 (Important) — Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2845537)
MS13-073 (Important) — Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Excel Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2858300)
MS13-074 (Important) — Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Access Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2848637)

Microsoft says that there are no changes in the actual updates, just in the detection of the update on the system. Customers who have already successfully installed the update need not take any action.

Other patches that were being offered repeatedly were also reissued, including these for Office 2007:
KB2760411
KB2760583
KB2760588

I had hidden those three updates after reading about the problem. Last night I unhid them and let them install. They haven't come back.

That's interesting! Having gone through the process of hiding 2760411 and 2760588 (Office Suites 2007) to stop them reoccurring, I find that neither are listed when I click on 'restore hidden updates'! I then checked 'installed updates' and note that 2760411 is listed as being installed, but there's no reference anywhere to 2760588!

I've run 'check for updates' and it says there are none! I suppose I'll have to assume that I'm up to date, even though I don't seem to have 2760588 installed. All very confusing

Keith
