Hans,
Just reviewed your latest thread on Lounge Rules. It seems most all agree with prior rules and regs. However, one seems to stand out as a confusing item.
------------------
Do not post advertisements
Post with blatant links to commercial sites, etc.
------------------
I know what you are trying to say here but perhaps it could be clarified to state that this does not apply to links that offer a solution to a problem by offering a particular piece of software that will accomplish what the OP is asking for. Not necessarily freeware but a commercial utility for instance. We have always allowed these links, in fact, encouraged them, correct?

Bob,
The wording of this rule is
The wording of this rule is
This seems to include the kind of wording that you say you want.8. Do not post advertisements
Post with blatant links to commercial sites, or to products or services for sale, will be considered spam and deleted without warning. You may, however, include links in your signature and profile as long as they are reasonable. If in doubt, please contact an Administrator. You may recommend a site that may be of help (your own included), but only if it answers a question that has been asked by another member within the topic in which you are posting. We do not allow classified ads of any sort. This is an information exchange forum, not a product exchange. If you wish to purchase or sell something, please visit sites that are specifically set up for those transactions.

That's the item I was looking at. Perhaps I was just interpreting it wrong?StuartR wrote:Bob,

"Post with..." should have been "Posts with...". I have corrected that.
Best wishes,
Hans

I think we're OK and most of us understand what the "intent" of the rule is and should be - to prevent garbage ads placed by people who haven't asked or answered a question. It's kinda like porn - whatever the definition is, I know it when I see it.
You're right Bob that we've always allowed links to software that one of us finds possibly interesting and useful, especially if it is in answer to someone's question.
Somehow, those old "spams" that we would periodically get were ALWAYS very obvious to the Admins and Mods and dealt with swiftly. I KNOW we'll continue to do just that.
