Message saying "you are not authorised to read this forum"

Post by IanWilson »

I got an email notifying me of a new message to the Security and Backup board on the topic of "Winpatrol Plus for just $0.99" but clicking in the link in the email takes me to a page that says "You are not authorised to read this forum".

I can in fact go to the Security and Backup board, and read posts there, but I see no topic there under that title. Is this because it was a spam posting that has been removed, or what? If that is the reason, a more informative error message like "This post is no longer available" would be more helpful, I suggest.

Indeed it was spam. You have a good point - we will see if we can get a more sensible message displayed.

Mike has worked his magic. If you follow the link in your email now you should see a much better error message.

Similar (I think) question. How about new member "inspectorweb" very early today where it says has made one post but trying to see that post yields nil.

Is this another banned spammer and just doesn't show that way yet?

(PS I'm in the habit of checking for new members every day.)

Inspectorweb posted one message that we suspect to be spam, so we removed it and put the poster on probation, i.e. new posts by this user will have to be approved by an admin before they become visible to you.

It's a sad state of affairs that many of the recent new Loungers are confirmed or suspected spammers - probably poor people from developing countries being paid a paltry sum to register at sites such as Eileen's Lounge and posting a series of advertisements...
Up to now, the spam bots haven't been able to get in, although they're trying hard...
Best wishes,
Hans

Yes. It now says "The message or page you are attempting to view is no longer available." which is indeed more helpful.

Thanks, Mike!

Not if you want to know what the spam was though...

Without wishing to trivialise such exploitation, I am reminded of this Demotivator by Despair Inc:
