Locked post and unread flagged

Post by DaveA »

With post http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2042" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; being locked and having visited it several times, it is always flagged as "Unread".

Does clicking on the 'Mark forums read' link clear the unread marker?

Yes, that did clear the unread marker, but, one should not need to do this.

Agreed, and in general, phpBB (the software this Lounge uses) appears to handle read/unread correctly, but occasionally the unread flag may get 'stuck'.
Best wishes,
Hans

Perhaps something somewhere has changed?

Until now I've had no problems with the unread messages flag on the Board Index not reflecting which boards I've read but tonight I've had to manually had to 'mark topics read' in both Lounge Matters and Test Area to bring the Board Index up to date.

I don't think we changed any board-level settings; I hope this is not the start of new problems... :crossfingers:

I'm on the other side. Thus far, I haven't had any problems with posts being shown as unread, after I've read them? :innocent:

I experienced the same problem with the test area forum earlier today, first time ever here.

That 'Test Area' forum was flagged as having unread posts in the Board Index can be explained: it contains a few threads that are only visible to administrators. Apparently the forum software counts them even if you can't see them.

But that doesn't explain DaveA's experience, which involved a specific thread that doesn't contain hidden posts.
Best wishes,
Hans

If it helps it happens both machines, desktop with Windows 7 IE 8 and the laptop with Vista IE8.
I first opened and read the thread on the destop, and the flage would NOT get cleared, checked things out with laptop and it would not clear.
Had, use link to "Mark Topices Read" to get it cleared.

Thanks - perhaps it had something to do with the hidden posts in Test Area; let's just hope it doesn't occur too often.
Best wishes,
Hans

I have noticed on some other boards, that a MOVED thread will show as read, but it needs to be opened so the flag will get cleared or one must do the Mark All as read thing.
