Response times

Post by PaulB »

Is it me, or has the lounge been sporadically very slow over the last couple of days? I've also been logged out and forced to sign in a few times.
Regards,
Paul

No, I've noticed a slowness and sluggish time to refresh pages. Never had to relog in at any time. All sporadically though.

I have also noticed Lounge pages being slow to load or refresh. I have no idea what causes it, unfortunately.

Problems with remaining logged in are on your side - this information is not kept on the server but in a cookie in your browser cache. If you're certain that you're not deleting the Lounge cookie yourself (for example by setting your browser to clear all browsing history on exit, or by running a program such as CCleaner without telling it to keep the Lounge cookie), it may be a good idea to remove it once by clicking "Delete all board cookies" (near the bottom if you use the default Prosilver skin, in the upper right part if you use Subsilver2 or other skins). When you refresh the page, you'll have to log in again. Don't forget to tick the check box to remain logged in.

I've not seen a slowness in posting and loading, but then again, my internet is permanently slow...
Another oddity is the truncating titles...
I noticed this twice in the last few days and even made a punny comment of it...

That truncation is due to the "Re:" being added at the front and pushing some letters off the end.

Thanks. I'll try deleting the cookies just for good measure.

On Wednesday, September 3, the server started reporting errors with the file system and required a file system check/repair to be run. It should all be back to normal by now. (I was out of office and thus didn't notice but it certainly is fine for me.)
Cheers, Claude.

I hope Mrs. Revo's chili didn't have something to do with that!?

On my 50 Mbps down broadband service, I am still experiencing occasional response times of perhaps five seconds when making posts, and this has been going on for weeks. There can't be many people using the Lounge at this time of day? In general, the Lounge seems more sluggish than other BBS systems which I use. Not a great problem, but whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be fixed! (Perhaps the Lounge is using one of Chris's old Inspirons?!)

Some slowness is probably unavoidable. Eileen's Lounge runs on a shared server that hosts many other websites.

Ah - then do we know how busy the shared server itself is? Perhaps it is becoming overloaded by the wealth of knowledge demonstrated by the Lounge!

Just out of curiosity: Where are the Lounge server(s) located geographically?
