Flagging/tagging as [solved]

Post by Rudi »

Just a curiosity,

Does the forum software allow for a way to add [solved] to the title of a thread that has a confirmed resolution?
I see various forums that do this and though it's not a crucial function, it can be quite handy as a flag, not only for searching, but also as indication to potential respondents that the thread is resolved.

:whisper: It would also be handy in the puzzles forum...

No, we don't have any similar functionality here. Often our threads lead to further discussion and interesting information comes out even after the original poster has solved their problem.

I'm also active in various Microsoft forums, where they offer the ability to mark a post as "the Answer" to a thread,
In my opinion, it's a virtually useless feature:
- It leads contributors to beg for their reply to be marked as "the answer".
- Frequently, the thread starter marks his/her own reply "that works" as "the answer", or a side remark that doesn't contribute to the solution.
- If the thread starter doesn't return to the thread, a moderator paid by Microsoft will mark an arbitrary reply as "the answer".
- If a reply has been marked as "the answer", and if the original poster has an additional question, it may be ignored unless the answer is unmarked, annoying the one who posted that answer.
So I think we're much better off without this feature.
Best wishes,
Hans
